Here is a list of local dentists who will buy back all the excessive candy your kids get this weekend (for $1.00 a pound). The candy is then sent to our troops overseas. Thousands of dentists participate every year from almost every state. The amount of candy they've been able to collect is simply astonishing: 122,000 pounds last year alone.

Wow! How cool! Thanks for sharing!!! I've heard of the Halloween Fairy coming and taking candy and leaving a toy in exchange. But never this program. Good to know.

But I think I will tell my kids about it AFTER trick or treating, or they might try to pick up extra candy to add to the pounds for more cash.

Happy Halloween.

I think I've already sold my kids on trading their candy for cash. Apparently, going to the store to buy something they can keep is more appealing than a lot of candy laying around for a few days.

If you click on the link in the OP, you can enter your zip code and get the name of any local dentist near you that is participating.

OK, my neighbor told me they don't give the cash to kids, they give it to charity? AND send the candy to soldiers? While that's really awesome, I don't think I can sell my kids. I think I'll just buy it from them for $10 each and take the candy to the dentists myself.

Every time we've done it the cash goes to the kids. Giving to charities is a great thing for kids to learn but in this case it's more fun for them to get a fe bucks to spend on something they want while helping out our troops.

Most offices that I know of also give the cash to the kids. Must have been that particular office.

oh that's wonderful. We're going to go to Triangle Family Dentistry today as it's down the street from my house. And after reading some great reviews on them, I'm going to take my disaster of a mouth to them--my thousands in repair will more than make up for them buying a couple pounds of candy!
