Location, Location, Location: where is “it” in the Raleigh area?
We are relocating and here is our wish list:
-Easy commute to Centennial Campus at NC State for my husbands job
-Nearby conveniences (do not want to drive 15 minutes to grocery, Costco, Target, restaurants, etc.)
-Proximity to green space for our dog
-$500K range
-Flexible on sq. ft. but prefer 2500+
-Small lot (prefer .25 acre or less)
Does this exist?
Bedford, Wakefield and anything past 540 is too far. Husband took a scouting trip at rush hour and said the commute would be awful, he thought Strickland Rd. would be the farthest north and doable?
North Hills area, it will make some people here cringe but it's got what you are looking for. Areas inside the beltline...drewery hills, etc. Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Costco all within a few miles of you. Greenways are there for walking the dog. The North Hills area is there for upscale dining if you want to get out. Conveniently located close to most major access roads. Lots of places with smaller lots. Some people call it 'snooty' in reputation but I really think for the most part that has changed. Most of the old money has moved out with exception of a few streets and in has moved younger professional families. My sister in law lives in drewery hills and it's a great neighborhood. Less than 10 miles from your husbands work anywhere in the beltline. Sounds like what you're looking for to me. You can also look just north of the beltline as well (440), there are lots of neighborhoods off six forks/lassiter mill/northbrook.
For Centennial Campus, Strickland Rd would be about 30 mins minimum commute--I make almost that exact commute, slightly later than rush hour, and that's about what it is (unless there's a wreck on the Beltline). He would probably want to be a little closer in than that. I agree that parts of eastern Cary will be very close to Centennial and a close zip on the Beltline/Western Blvd to campus, and will offer more choices.
Look inside the beltline of Raleigh. There is University Park, Village at Pilot Mill, Lassiter Mill, Bedford Heights, Hobson and you might try Oaks at Fallon Park but they may be a little higher in price. Some do not have garages in this area. Also a really great house in Hidden Valley (new & a short sale) but the lot is large..but really beautiful.
I second the North Hills area or areas around crabtree like Brookhaven. That would be about 10 to 15 min to his work. My husband lived in Morrisville for a while and it took 20 min to get to NC State. I'd say anything in the crabtree valley mall area or north hills area will get him to work fast and you will be near everything. Not to mention that is a really popular area.
