Hi, Icequeen,

We looked around that area the first time I brought my wife to NC to scope things out. Zebulon is somewhat to the east of Raleigh. We didn't like it as much as Wendell, which we thought had a much better small-town character (from appearances, anyway).
I suppose it depends on whether you're looking for an older place near downtown or a new development. We are much more geared toward older houses so our opinions come from that angle.
I can envision the commutes being somewhat more as you would have to cross Raleigh to get to RTP (if that is where you will work).

Default ..

My parents lived there briefly approx. 3 years ago and didn't feel safe. That is just one elderly couple's opinion though.... They are a cross between the Cleavers and the Waltons....

Default zebulon

I am moving there shortly and there is a brand new housing development going in that has 45 homes. I didn't feel unsafe at all when I was there. The locals look out for each other, so for heaven's sake ICEQUEEN, if you are from the north, Assimilate!

I live in Zebulon and there is only one grocery store ( Food Lion ) I drive 10 miles to Knightdale to grocery shoppe .The downtown area is so out dated. But the people are extremely friendly. The major shopping malls are about 28 miles west,in the Raleigh area. They are finally building nice housing developments.
cheers

Quiet and no traffic.

With the new bypass takes 20 mins or less to get to
Raleigh
Takes about 45 mins to get to RDU
Not sure about the schools.
We are moving just because we need a larger house now. If not I really like where I am at, quiet cul-de-sac backed up to the woods.

Get to say good morning to the deer in my back yard frequently

Zebulon is more what Knightdale/Wendell/Clayton etc were like 10-20 years ago...the development hasn't quite gotten there yet. This may be good, or bad, depending on what you want. A lot more rural, at least for now.

It is east of Raleigh, would be a pretty long haul for Durham or Chapel Hill. I think it's in Wake county, and thus the Wake school system, but since there are fewer schools out that way, the possibilities for "musical schools" redistricting are not as up in the air.

I worked in Zebulon, at Nomacorc, and they have a really nice Super Wal-Mart, so not sure what is meant about there only being one grocery store; the Super Wal-Mart is on Gannon Road.

My commute (I live in North Durham) was 1 hour and 15 minutes, so depending where you're going in Raleigh or Durham, your commute could be less.

My cousin lives in Zebulon and said if she had it to do all over she'd move to Knightdale. She said working in Zebulon is rare (GlaxoSmithKline laid off a few Zebulon workers) and the commute to her job in Raleigh is about 25 to 30 minutes. She said Knightdale isn't as "rural" and the houses are nicer and more affordable.
