My ex lives in Cary, and I'm planning to rent nearby. Can my kids ride more than one bus route? For example, if they went home to dad on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Alternate Friday, and home to me on M, W Alt Friday. Assuming I live in the same NODE could they ride the appropriate bus to each of their homes?
And what if I live in a different NODE? is there any prayer of getting bus transport then?
This might seem trivial, but my current district wouldn't even let my dd get off at a different stop on T/Th for purposes of child care (and it was the same bus!)
This is also pretty important because my ex lives in Preston, and I don't think I can afford to rent in the tiny geographic area that is his Node. (West Cary Middle/Green Hope High) If I can get transport, I could expand my rental area to Davis Drive/Green Hope, which is a much larger area...but still not very cheap to rent in!
I believe if it's due to a custody arrangement, then yes, you can work it out with the school IF there is a bus going there already, even if it's in a different node. But if there is no bus service from the school to your house anyway, then no.
Node doesn't matter, as long as a bus from your child's school services both homes. However, my neighbors were in that situation, both within the transportation area for the same school, and they were told it wasn't possible.
I've heard that other people have worked it out, though. I think you have to be very assertive - you could well get a "no" on first ask, but it should be possible in your situation.
I'm not sure who your first contact should be - either the school principal or assistant principal (I think the assistants are usually in charge of transportation issues, though not sure if that's true at every school). And if not them, then the WCPSS Transportation Area Coordinator (contact info on wcpss website)
Thanks!
I can be assertive, but it didn't get me anywhere with my current district. "If we let you do this, everyone will want to"
No, just the people who have to work until 7pm two days a week and need after school care!
I ended up quitting the job so I didn't have to deal with it anymore. (that was not the only reason, but it was annoying to say the least!)
