In that price range last fall we bought a 40 year old 1100 sqft 3 bed/1 bath/1 carport brick "contemporary" on .3 acres in Chapel Hill. It was a fixer upper with very muddy well water, bad plumbing, roaches, bad dog smell, etc. We hooked up to city water (~$4K), had all the floors sanded, the interior painted and spent untold hours cleaning. We have moved in and are in the midst of replacing some plumbing fixtures as well as other improvements. We managed to rid the house of roaches in the 3 months before we moved in. (Thank goodness!!!) With all that, it's turning into a cute house!

Has anyone looked at "Portrait Homes" on Louisburg Rd (401 N) just north of the US1/401 split? They are brand new townhouses priced in the $140K range. Despite being close to the road and not having any yard whatsoever, they seem awfully convenient and close to everything. They are building a small shopping next door and people probably can walk for some of their shopping needs.

Default $155K in Cary (four years ago)

A late 60s ranch, 1500 square feet heated, 3 bed/2 bath and 1 garage.
0.30 acres of land (tall oak trees, pines, sweet gums, maples etc).
Safe, peaceful neighborhood, nearby park and wooded area.

We were concerned about the partition walls -- you could hear through them, and could be a fire hazard.

Does anyone in Raleigh have concrete walls in townhouses? I saw 300K ones that didn't have them next to Barnes & Nobles on Falls of the Neuse. I told someone in PA who just bought a townhouse and he was shocked and said he thought it was standard to have concrete walls between the units.

I know it all to well having gone through it last summer. A home I was interested in last summer but was subsequently taken off the market is now back on the market. It is in the River Bluffs subdivision near the Intersection of Mitchell Mill Road and Louisburg Road. You should be able to find it doing a subdivision search on any realtors website or feel free to PM me if you want the MLS #.

Like I said, I have nothing to gain by the sale of this house. Maybe you wouln't think as much of it as I did, but I think it has a lot to offer for the price. I just wanted to let folks like me who are on tight housing budgets know that there are some nice homes out there in our price range!
Ohhhh, I think you WANT to be a RE agent.

Good post but too soon to toss a point your way...
