Thumbs up Proof there are nice homes in the $155K range still out there in NE Raleigh

I am not a RE agent but I wanted to give a heads-up to anybody looking for a nice home that is below $155K in NE Raleigh. This is a tough market to be in as the good ones seem to go fast. I know it all to well having gone through it last summer. A home I was interested in last summer but was subsequently taken off the market is now back on the market. It is in the River Bluffs subdivision near the Intersection of Mitchell Mill Road and Louisburg Road. You should be able to find it doing a subdivision search on any realtors website or feel free to PM me if you want the MLS #.

Like I said, I have nothing to gain by the sale of this house. Maybe you wouln't think as much of it as I did, but I think it has a lot to offer for the price. I just wanted to let folks like me who are on tight housing budgets know that there are some nice homes out there in our price range!

Thanks for posting this! I know it's hard to believe that some people actually dont' want to (or can't) spend at least 250K on a house! Most people asking for houses in the range get scoffed at like 150K isn't a lot of money or something, lol. I'm glad someone is pointing out that there really are houses in the triangle in the 150K range if you look hard enough for them.

Regards,
Another member of the 150K house club

Just out of curiosity (i'm not looking)... *what* can you get for $155K? Square footage? Lot size? close to busy roads/planes/trains? 0/1/2 car garage?

That all depends on where one is looking. I'm in FV so I got a lot more for that than you would normally see (new, 1850 sq ft, 4 br, 2.5 bath, 2 car garage, on 1/5 or .20 acre lot) and that was only 2 years ago. In NE Raleigh, I would think you could get an average sized 3 br, 2 ba home for that. In Cary/apex, I think that's a 1000 sq ft ranch in an older (although safe) area.

Edit: Oh, I did forget to add that for that price I have no trees! That little charlie brown looking thing they planted out front hardly qualifies. so yeah... you can't win 'em all.

In Apex you can get a 1200sf house in that price range (9 years old for the one I just found on the listings). No garage, .14 lot, very cute. Not much in Cary at that price, however.

My house is currently listed for $155K, so I can answer that to some extent but I think it would vary greatly by location. We are in Durham, East out Hwy 98 (Marbrey Landing s/d). We have 3 bed/ 2.5 bath, 1 car garage, 1620 sf, .25 acres with trees and fence, cul-de-sac location, built in 1998. We are in the middle of the s/d, so not backing to any main roads, and no plane/train noise either. I think our house is pretty good myself! I think our biggest problem here is Durham's reputation, and specifically the reputation of the schools.

Coming from NY where homeownership was only an impossible and unattainable fantasy for us, just the thought of being able to own ANYTHING is literally a dream come true. I'd be happier than a pig in you-know-what to be able to buy a house like that in Apex if I was just moving here now.

I imagine there's some nice houses to be had in that range in Clayton, as well.

I agree with the previous posters as this will vary depending on what area you are looking in. In this instance we are talking about a home built in 1999 with 1475 sq ft, 3 bed 2.5 bath, 2 car garage, a deck, .24 acres. On top of that it has mature trees at the edge of the back yard that provide a lot of privacy, and it has smooth celings .... not popcorn. This location is conveinet to the new I-540 entrance off of Louisburg Road and only 4 miles from Triangle town Center Mall. No power lines, air traffic or train noise, and it does not back up to a highway. As I said this house impressed us last year. That is a lot to get for under $155K. There are gems out there!
