Only Burger in Durham gets my vote. Love the new location off of Shannon Rd.
I think they grind their own meat (taste that way) and they butter the bun. Simple things that add up to perfection.
I really like Tribeca Tavern. I had the Wagyu Beef burger and loved it! Sounds like the menu changes and I don't see it on the menu currently but trust me the burgers are great.
My vote is for a Pepper Jack Cheesburger with lettuce, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms from Jumpin Johnnies. Wow thats a great burger. They serve it with two perfectly seasoned patties instead of one thick one which I like better for the texture. And their fries are fresh cut right in front of you, blanched and then fried.
Other than the breakfast burger from Only Burger it is just a fad or there for the experience. Haven't been to their location on Shannon Road yet (Heck everytime I tried to go, the opening was delayed) but I will soon.
Also there have been some other places mentioned in this thread I will have to visit. Red Robin isn't really that bad either although I don't want to pay that much for a burger. Just because it is a chain doesn't mean it isn't good. For instance I'm calling you a liar if you tell me any place that has a chicken sandwhich better than Chik-fil-a.
Yeah, my wife called to order a "To Go" last night from Ted's and she was like, "Ummmm...they didn't answer...". Since I was nearby there already and assumed they maybe didn't have someone manning the phones, I decided to drive by, and sure enough, lights are off and it's all boarded up.
Shame.
For a relatively good, cheap burger...I'll go to Andy's. It's like under $5 for their Andy's Original, which is a burger, fries, and soda. And I heard they just opened at Crabtree where Dunderbak's used to be.
Noooo, not Ted's! Pricey, but they had excellent bison burgers and fries. Man, a few of my co-workers are going to be even more upset when they hear about this.
Tribeca Tavern is too far away for me to try for lunch, but J.Betski's is close enough. Does J.Betski's let you specify if you want your burger cooked medium, or some other level, if you want? If not, what is the best remaining place that does?
Sorry, not to argue, but Red Robin was probably my biggest eating letdown, ever. When they came to Apex, I was intrigued by "gourmet" burgers.
What I got was a fast food quality burger topped with a sauce/cheese/etc that I guess was supposed to make it gourmet.
hmm, maybe it's a location thing, I never been to the Apex one, but Cary was really good - try the "Royal" something or other - it has an egg on it!
