We've lived all over the US from New York to Los Angeles and have been in Raleigh 18 years.

No plans to leave.

Thanks everybody for the encouragement and experience.

I know that being away from family is going to be hard on me. We have those get togethers for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc........ I will miss that. But like someone said, it is not that far of a trip.

There just doesn't seem to be any future here for my children, or for that matter, also the wife and I. My business is getting to where it provides what we need, but I do not have the cash flow to get to the next level and feel I am very stagnate. I am 46, I cannot wait much longer to get over the hill.

Now as for Raleigh, just seems like a great city/area to live in. Better opportunities. Like someone said Ohio seems so past, and I believe that Raleigh does seem to be exciting and upbeat. I do know that nowhere is perfect, but with the schools, research, development. Voted as a great place to live.

Plus folks I do think a fresh start would do us good.

Thank you all, and I am placing in Ohio section also, good advice.

Did anyone mention the SCENIC drive on your way up to Ohio? I have family in Toledo and I remember this one trip (the only one by the way) where we drove through the Blue Ridge Mountains. To me, that was well worth the drive!

Oh, we have "soda" down here in NC. We are not quite sure what "pop" is, except maybe a genre of music.
(just kidding!)

i am scared crapless of moving from MA to NC, but I too am being invited down. i think for my final interview. everything has worked out, timing, going down in april to check it out, the fact that my 1st interview was during a day i had off and when they want me to come down for the final is during a week i already scheduled off... there is some kind of divine providence working behind the scenes... doors are being opened for me and no matter how much i want to shut them, they keep opening up at the right time. i know i have to leave because there is nothing good left up here and i can only raise and start a family down there, despite our ivy league educations and salaries... go with what you dont know. you only live once, and you will look back wondering if you really would have died trying...

DnyaMow, I totally hear you and have the same thought process, basically, as you do about this move.

It will be best for my kids' future too, but I am close to my mom and she's here in CT-I am working on the folks to retire to NC. Since I have the only grandkids, maybe that will be the bait : ) We're not moved yet so I don't know how it will be.

I hope it all works out for you, and for all of us seeking this move too!

The most ironic thing about this is I met this guy on a forum just like this. I belong to a couple other forums that are related to the landscaping industry. I have chatted with this guy for about 3 years now. Just been posting about how things aren't going real well and out of the blue, he steps up offers me a position to open a new office for him. He is a big company and services many properties in RTP. Which I now know is very impressive in its self. My wife is a nursing assistant that wants to further her education, and my kids, well my kids are just preciuos. Well behaved, respectful, good students, just fine, fine kids. Well they are on the good track, and I want to keep it that way and do whatever I can do for them to keep them heading on a productive path, with open eyes to all possibilities America offers.

This guys company is like the 5th largest lawn maintanence companies in NC. He is based in Charlotte and is growing in Raleigh. He use to mow these properties from Char location with overnight crews, but with business growth he is ready for Raleigh location.

So we will see. Flying out next week to check out location before final decision. So tell everybody you know to be on their best behavior.

Oh and have me a "pop" chilled and ready......LOL

When you post in the Triangle forum, you are going to hear from people who live here, they love it, and you'll get a very rosy perspective. If you want encouragement, then you'll definitely get it. If you want to hear both sides of the issue, the Ohio forum might provide that.
I did, and it is an interesting read. Thought maybe those that have taken the interest and posted here might want to read. so thought I would paste a link.

This is a great post. Now I don't feel like such a baby having a hard time leaving the home I grew up at after 38 years. Though I am moving all alone with 5 horses, 3 dogs a cat and a bird. Mostly I am moving because to buy a farm like the one I found down there around here would be impossible, and second the weather is so much better for being outside year round. I do have a sister down there who will be an hour away from me. It is still very scarey and a really big decision.
