I wouldn't call myself an expert but I do have two Roku boxes. The setup is very easy - just plug it in to the TV via HDMI and follow the onscreen instructions to connect the wireless. Lastly you enter a code on the Netflix website to activate the Roku, and that's about it. Very easy.

I find the quality good for how I use it (watch in kitchen, or while working out), but for me it would not replace HD cable service.

Default Roku works good

I have $40 TW Roadrunner service, ASUS RT-16N Router and Roku XR ( older version but with HDMI) running on WiFi-n for almost a year. Very happy with Netflix and now Hulu-Plus - I watch movies on 119 inch projection screen and had no problems with quality. If Netflix/Hulu has good quality HD material it looks good. Some stuff on Netflix is not that good at source and it looks OK. I love Roku's channel concept and am very happy with how they are adding new channels and adding features.

I stream netflix ( $7.99 steaming only) via my PS3 in the bonus room

I recently ( last week) bought the Roku XDS on sale at amazon for under sixty bucks, It was easy to set up wirelessly and I've never had a problem streaming Netflix. I did try Vudu and that was buffering a lot

I'm locked in with TWC for another 18 months but will ditch cable tv after then, I'm thinking.
