Default Visit to Elizabeth and Wade's grave site

I had been wanting to pay my respect to Mrs. Edwards and her son and with blue skies today was the perfect day.

I stopped by the office and after providing me with a map she told me 'Just looks for Wade's angel' and there it was . .it had to be close to 10 feet tall...stone..just beautiful. no official marker but a beautiful bench and stones . .a beautiful garden.

I have been to Oakwood before and I would recommend a visit. It has a huge confederate cemetary which is awesome and other markers like Senator Jesse Helms.

What a nice way to pay your respect. That's an interesting cemetery to visit. Coach Valvano is also buried there.

I went for a walk through Oakwood Cemetery one day, after just happening upon it, and it was lovely. To me, that cemetery has much more of a peaceful feeling than others I've been in.

Oakwood reminds me of Northern cemeteries I'm familiar with. At the turn of the century, cemeteries were sort of "destination" parks, and entire families would go there to picnic on Sundays, so cemetery designers made sure to design beautiful places because they would be well used.

So many cemeteries in the South are just rows of plaques with plastic flowers stuck in vases, and that always seemed very sad to me.

Oakwood Cemetery is beautiful.

??? I take it you've never seen the historic cemeteries in places like Wilmington, Beaufort, Charleston, or Savannah? The one in Beaufort is so beautiful with all the live oaks shading the paths and Spanish Moss dripping from the limbs. It's the sort of place you can feel those who went before us.

SL, thanks for posting the lovely photos.
