That becomes interesting because this is probably the last year for much in the way of RTTP. Many in the new congress want to can the program. More states didn't get money compared to that. There are even those wanting to do away with the Department of Education. He came from DC and if not real familiar with you may want to visit the controversy surrounding evaluation there. In DC and several other districts the entire concept of student performance based evaluations is wrapped in changes to how teachers get paid with the magic 100K being reachable for a limited number of staff. I am not sure that would fly very well in Wake. He won't have unions to deal with but he also might not have the support of some of the traditional friends of public education. Michelle Rhee pushed real hard on evaluations and reformed and pushed herself out of a job in the process. She got a lot of good publicity but made a few enemies also.

Article regarding the initial hiring of Mr. Tata in DC.

D.C. Wire - Operation: DCPS
Quote:
Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee has reached into the senior ranks of the U.S. Army for a veteran of the war in Afghanistan to fill her newly created chief operating officer's position. Former Brigadier Gen. Anthony J. Tata, who retired May 31 after 28 years in uniform, will be paid $170,000 a year to focus initially on procurement matters and then expand to other key aspects of the system, according to Rhee spokeswoman Jennifer Calloway.

Schools chief allowed to do TV, Web stints - Home Page - NewsObserver.com
Quote:
RALEIGH -- New Wake County Schools Superintendent Anthony Tata can do stints as a commentator on national network news shows and conservative websites.

School board members say Tata's contract lets him continue those activities - if he does them on his own time and if he represents himself as a retired U.S. Army brigadier general, not as Wake's superintendent.

Board members are divided about Tata's extracurricular activities, splitting the same way they did in voting Thursday to hire him.

The resident Grinch (me) asks that everyone PLEASE stay on topic, which is the appointment of a new School Superintendent.
