Ok, the weather people are ALL OVER THE PLACE with the possible snow this weekend. So, how much do you guys think we'll get? Be sure to vote in the poll. I personally hope we get a lot, but as of now that doesn't seem very likely.
Living in North Carolina is a lesson in patience. It is all according to how the wind blows and how fast it blows and how much water is in the air when the temperature is right for the white stuff. But we have a very good chance for a white Christmas. When the weather comes from the South we get our best snows. You probably know that already.
My guess for Charlotte would be 2 inches and for Raleigh would be from 6-10 inches. I can guess as good as the weather forecasters, although their guess is more educated.
Judging by the latest models and the trend tonight, it's not looking good for the Triangle now. 2 days ago we were talking about a historic snowstorm. Tonight, we're battling for the possibility of 2 inches or less.
My guess...less than an inch, with greater amounts out by Greenville, but still, a pretty minor storm.
To those who have been following these runs (forecast models) in the last few days...you know this has been a rollercoaster. After seeing the Euro completely fall apart last night and the train wreck all day...I was just about ready to throw in the towel. Then 00z GFS and RGEM runs come out tonight and turns the trends totally upside down...and it'll be interesting to see what Euro has in store for us at 1am. There's a sparked interest in this storm for the weather experts in the south tonight.
In simpler terms...it had been looking like this area...and more accurately...west of 95 gets very little of anything...maybe even some rain. Points south in SC and Atlanta gets just about nothing. 00z GFS had a more westerly run tonight where it's showing the possibility of some snow thru Atlanta and South Carolina...and a pretty potent storm hitting eastern NC (6-9 inches just west of Wilmington). What would it mean for us in the Triangle? Well, our paltry trace-2in becomes closer to 2-4 inches or even 3-6 inches. While areas like Greensboro get a trace to nothing. We'll have a better idea after 1am when we get to see where the Euro stands.
If we were staying in town this weekend, we too vote for LOTS. But since we will be on the road at 4 am today we are HOPING for nothing...until we clear the SC border.
I'd be hoping for a foot of snow if I didn't have family driving in from the midwest Sunday morning.
