Hi, I'm thinking of moving to Knightdale and have questions. If you're able to help me, I'd really appreciate it. Is Knightdale really a bad place to move? Are there stores, activities for the teens, parks, etc.? What's the curfew for teens? Is there a gang problem? How are the middle and high schools? Is there anything that you know now that you wish you would've known before you moved there? Please help! Any info that you have will be helpful!

Gangs drugs have been a rumor for years. I would say check out the downtown areas.

I lived in Knightdale for about 5 years before moving to nearby Smithfield. I am going to give you my honest assessment.

Knightdale is growing very, very rapidly. It sits right on highway 64, which is very busy. But there is a new bypass that will allow you to drive into Raleigh and avoid the business district on 64. Quite a number of new places to shop there, except for an actual mall. Still, the shopping is very convenient. The closest mall is about 20-25 minutes away.

Downtown Knightdale ('old' Knightdale) retains a small bit of its original southern charm, but RR tracks run right through town and back in the 1940's the town buildings on one side of the tracks burned to the ground. So, today, its really sort of half a town. Its not really the Mayberry it once was.

Schools there are quite good (and new) but there are overcrowding pressures. But they rank well and have very good facilities.

Some areas of Knightdale have, in my opinion, become less desirable over the years, mainly due to gang activity and drug issues. That said, Knightdale isn't exactly crawling with gangs, although there is a small amount of grafitti. But Knightdale is pretty conservative and there has been a crackdown on this, including a curfew. All of that said, there are also some incredible new homes in the Knightdale area as well, so its a mixed bag. Economically I'd say Knightdale is upward bound and I suspect increasing property values there will eventually price out some of the more troublesome elements. But most of the trouble in Knightdale is usually kids, nothing too serious.

There is a small public park near down town that tennis courts, etc... and there are usually events there on weekends. But its not very big. Still, its nice.

If you are looking for southern charm I would also check out Wendell, Zebulon and Smithfield. They are slightly further from Raleigh but worth checking out. Frankly, I am happier in Smithfield than I was in Knightdale, but its all a matter of personal taste. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

Sounds like you have kids too.

Honestly, I would do some research on Clayton. I think it might be more suiting.

Good luck!

Actually, with that section of 540 having opened, Triangle Town Center Mall is about 10 minutes up the road now.
