I have a friend who finds successful small businesses all over the country and then starts them in other cities (launching small franchises, I guess). He's looking to do something in the Triangle and asked me what I thought we needed (or needed more of). I'm pretty stumped, I admit. What do you all think?

Raleigh IcePlex, Raleigh Center Ice, Polar Ice House, Garner Ice House, and The Factory Ice House aren't enough?

How many ice rinks do you need (the one at The Factory even has two rinks!)!

There are many clean laundromats in the area....not sure where you are going. The one on South Main in Wake Forest is nice.

If most people here want a diner at 3 am, they go to Waffle House.

These are not businesses he will be able to start, but based on earlier threads there is a dire need for:
- Wegmans
- IKEA
- In&Out Burger

I could use a true, New York oriented, kosher-styled deli. And I'm not talking about Jason's either, I'm thinking full sandwiches, a plate of sours and home made fries. I'm talking about a griddle behind a counter with knishes and hotdogs always ready to be served.

Go with the combo businesses:

Carwash/Nail-shop
Bar/Laundro-mat
Brothel/Health clinic ;-)

and in a serious note, Raleigh is probably right for one of those car-share or bike-share things.

And of course, what we really need is:
A light rail
A pork-only BBQ joint
or a good NY Pizza place (like the one from back home)

^^The timing might be right for one of the car or bike share things...

EDIT: +1 on the real deli (add it to my combo list: NY Pizza/Deli) ;-)
