Kim--

Garner is about 5 minutes from Clayton(We stayed in Garner when I went to the job fair...but on the very southern outskirts of it. It was a 5 minute drive to Clayton's downtown/E. Clayton elementary...about 15 minutes to the eastern outskirts such as Riverwood/Archers Lodge).

Raleigh is about 20 minutes.

PS--Keep in mind that Garner is in WAKE county(Raleigh too). SO if you have kids, they would go to Wake county schools, not Johnston...unless you could get them into E. Clayton where you work(Which I hear is not a problem normally). Some very eastern/southern parts of Garner are in Johnston County(like where our hotel was), but the majority of Garner is in Wake.

Traffic in Clayton/Garner is relative to where you are moving from. I came from DC/Baltimore, MD area so the traffic there makes the 5 minutes of rubber necking, let's see why this truck is pulled over on the side of the rd, over use of media coverage for accidents and 45 cop cars lined up for a stalled f150 look like nothing. If you live in Clayton be close to the main rds (40, 70, 42) otherwise you will be hitting traffic lights like it is nobody's business.

As with any town, there are many different parts to Garner. There is the area near 40/42 where you can't tell where Garner begins and Clayton ends (its an area where something like 3 or 4 towns meet....very oddly shaped township lines).

Be sure to see with your own eyes the areas. We were told to stay away from the section of Garner that is very near to South East Raleigh.

Lauren

Default Driving time

I live in Clayton too, it is about 15 minutes to Garner and 25-30 to Raleigh. Guess it depends where in Clayton you are, it is a big area.
