Alf rocks--

I Understand your concerns and it will be a while before everything is straightened out. Only 20% of the kids at our Elem go on to our Middle School, then only about 20% of those middle schoolers go on to our HS. I'm hoping that the HS situation will get fixed tonight when the BOE votes on the assignment plan.

I feel for you and for the past several years my husband and I have thought the same thing about Chapel Hill. If the economy was better we would seriously consider moving there.

Does anyone have any idea when and where the results of the re-redistricting will be published? I was just on the WCPSS site, and nothing. I'd love to know where we are districted next year.
(Our situation was that we were redistricted for my 9th grader to go to a school much farther away. She was grandfathered into the much closer school, with no bus service, because of an older sibling. The re-redistricting would have put us back at the school where she currently attends and give us bus service back. It would be very good for our family, essentially)

I'm just wanting to see what this roll of the dice has given us.

I'm not sure they have finalized the plan yet, but the proposals as of yesterday are all on the WCPSS website.

They voted on the plan last night. I think the only moves that weren't approved were the ones sending kids to Carnage and Conn. Hopefully your move went through. I'm happy that our high school got changed back to the one it should have never been switched from.

There's not a direct reference to our "node", but why would I expect that? Gee.

I see the good side and the bad side of the whole neighborhood school thing. For our family, being close to the school is a very good thing. I have 2 kids that are involved in a lot at school, so there is MUCH running back and forth from home to school. There are also many very late nights, and it's nice to only drive the 3 miles instead of the close to 15 miles. Best thing about switching back would be the bus service - which would save a bunch of money from the parking pass and would also let me work normal hours without being in a constant state of rushing.

I'm crossing my fingers that ours went through. It was a "parent suggested" one that was "under consideration". I have no faith in the system that things will ever be easy.

Everything went through except for those individual proposals that were cited in the article. And you can look up the ones that didn't pass on the WCPSS site that was linked here.

I'm one of the 3 "lucky" proposals that will be considered after a 2/15 hearing. So I get to go, again, to the board to plead my case. Again.

I'm so sorry that you are still waiting. Hopefully it will turn out in the direction that you want.

My fear was that ours was a "parent" suggestion and it was listed as only "under consideration" and not "recommended". I guess that I don't have much faith in the system. That's not a good thing. I need to work on that.

Did the reassignment of F&R lunch students result in higher academic achievement/higher graduation rates for these students?
