So many doctors, how does a newcomer choose? Why, ask the good folks on the forum! One of the reasons we moved to this area was the wealth of medical choices available here...but navigating options isn't always easy when you don't know a lot of people.
I've been dealing with carpal tunnel for many years and I think I am close to or at the point of needing surgery now. Raleigh Hand and Triangle Neurosurgery (specifically Dr. Dennis Bullard) were the two places mentioned to me so far. Has anyone had experience with either? Any other recommendations from anyone who has had this surgery? I should mention that I am only interested in a surgeon who does microsurgery. I don't even know if anyone does it the old fashioned way anymore.
I had my left and right done by Dr James Post (Raleigh Hand Center) about 4-5 years ago. It was done at Duke Raleigh hospital. My carpal tunnel was so bad that I couldn't even blow dry my hair, ride a bike...and the list goes on. I also had to get up in the middle of the night and stand with my arms straight down just to get feeling again. Dr. Post was great!!! My recovery was quick and I am finally able to do all the things that I had missed out on for so many years.
I'm sure that I would be using Dr. George Edwards Jr. for any hand issues. He's homegrown and one heck of a nice fellow to go along with being a very good hand surgeon. He helped my daughter with a trigger thumb, and he'll be doing my trigger finger when I get around to fixing it.
Wow, thanks everyone! I'll go forward with confidence with all your great comments regarding Raleigh Hand! Sounds like I can't go wrong with either Drs. Post or Edwards.
NRaleigh Mom, several times last week I had to get out of bed and let my arm just dangle to stop the pain/numbness in my hand, I know exactly what you mean!
Been wearing my wrist splint almost 24/7 last few days and the symptoms have eased up a lot. I might wait a bit before making the appointment... but deep down I know I'm just stalling the inevitable. At least now I know who to call when I'm ready. Appreciate each of your responses!
