What I think is sad is how many people in the Cary/Apex people seem to be too scared to go to Durham I don't just mean the high crime area...people tell me they NEVER go ANYWHERE in the ENTIRE city.

That means, no:
Duke Gardens
Durham Museum of Life and Science
Brightleaf Square
Ninth Street
Locopops
Duke University
Duke Hospital and all its top rated specialists and facilities
Streets at Southpoint
American Tobacco Trail
etc etc etc etc

That just blows my mind. It's like people picture the entire city is just one neighborhood right out of a gangster movie

Totally agree with you there. While I now there are bad areas of Durham, there are also bad areas of Raleigh (I work in SE Raleigh). I live in NW Raleigh and travel to Durham to visit friends and go downtown, etc. I've been to 2 Bulls games and want to go to many more. Durham is nice little city...at least most of the parts I've seen.

Bad news sells. I blame the media. The more time I spend in Durham the more I like it.

Yeah, and they probably work in RTP, but refuse to admit it is Durham

I look forward to the thread where Durhamites write about how much they love coming to Cary/Apex.

I happen to enjoy Durham and Cary and every other place in the Triangle. Is that weird? Am I being too open and adaptable? Do I need to pick a side?

I like Jordan Lake! (Is that in Apex? I haven't been to the actual town of Apex yet)

There are definitely things I like in Cary, esp. Grand Asia market. I know I want to go to more restaurants there.

No one should have to pick sides or feel like bashing is necessary. I live and work in Durham, but have lived in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. They were nice, but not my preference. I visit Cary often to get my eyebrows done a this Indian beauty salon. I also have a few restaurants that I go to every once in a while. I do not disdain any of these areas (Apex or Cary,etc.). I just can't justify being there all the time when everything I could want (except for good eyebrow threading) is here in Durham.

No, that's not weird. I grew up in Chapel Hill, and have worked all over. One of the reasons I like Durham so much is that it is in the middle. I can visit friends or shops pr restaurants in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Cary, even Greensboro. It's got a great central location

Same here! I feel fortunate that I have so many places to explore in the Triangle region as a whole, and I have friends in every town and city here, though I'm most unfamiliar with areas south and east of Raleigh. Guess I better get out and explore. Seriously, I consider the entire Triangle my home, and like something about every place I've been here....
