A tip. Get in shape and it should help.

I work out about 2 hours daily on the elliptical & weights. The heat bothers me much less than years ago, and I'm now 62.

That's how I characterized living in Northern VA for the 2 years we were there. Then we moved up to MA where very few places (houses--older ones, especially) are air conditioned. And a humid day in the Boston area is just as bad if not worse than any I have seen down in the Raleigh area.

A caveat: I *am* in shape (long distance runner and biker) and I can NOT work out outside on those brutally humid days unless it's about 4-5AM. Even then it's questionable for a run. A bike ride is easier--even during the day because you have the breeze factor.

On those really God-awful days, I just go to the gym, though I prefer to be outside.

I agree. It's amazing how much better I feel exercising outdoors when there is lower humidity. I had walking pneumonia when I was 13 and my respiratory system has never been the same ever since. High humidity definitely exacerbates the problem.

Not to mention, I read something in a running magazine once about how dangerous high heat + humidity really is when doing high intensity exercise. It makes perfect sense because sweat cannot evaporate from the body when the temp and humidity reach a certain level, thus not allowing the body to naturally cool itself. This can be very dangerous.

Absolutely miamiblue. I even take it back a notch or two in the gym. It's air conditioned but in the high humidity, you can feel it even inside.

Our gym keeps the temp at 65 and low humidity. Ideal!
