I'm looking for a whole roasted pig for an event I'm hosting in April. After speaking with Grand Asia, they advised that the pig is roasted in NY and transported down here (takes 1 week to cook and deliver). Has anyone ordered a pig from Grand Asia before? I'm just worried about quality due to the delivery distance. Is there any other place in the triangle that roasts a whole pig (the chinese/filipino style)? TIA

We once cooked our own in the backyard using something called a "China Box" borrowed from old work friends, but I'm not sure if I want to do it again. I'll be watching this thread for ideas. I'd love to do a July 4th party with a giant pig this year.

Have you ruled out, renting a grill and cooking the pig yourself?

$8.95/lb ($9.95/lb cut into smaller pieces and reformed to look like a whole pig)--pigs are around 30-35 lbs

Yep, it's too risky (it's an important event) to attempt myself... My plan B is the pig from Grand Asia, but am still working on a plan A

I was friends with a guy back in Dallas who ran a BBQ catering business. He would smoke brisket, chickens, turkeys, whole pigs. . .. whatever you wanted. . . on his smoker that he towed behind his truck. I'm sure that there are businesses like that here in Raleigh.

Pretty sure you could find someone around here. I went to a few fraternity parties a few years ago where they had a guy come out and smoke the pig right there out back before a game as part of the tailgate festivities.

No idea who they got though. It was delicious.

Probably a good idea. I remember cooking my first hog many years ago...my cousins and I having volunteered our services for a family reunion. We put the hog on at midnight, and by 1:00 am the scene was similar to this one
