Yes, Dorothy those are gun shots you hear. Previously we have had discussion about people hearing gunshots here there and other where but did we realize your neighbor in Johnston could legally fire em off? Should you care? Should government regulate what you can do in your front or back yard with your gun? Hmmm if government can't should your local HOA be able to? I just assumed there was some level of government regulation keeping neighborhoods safe. Is it illegal elsewhere in the Triangle?

A proposal to reduce stray gunfire in Johnston County is being crafted by a special working group there.
The panel is trying to figure out what needs to be included in a proposed ordinance to restrict the way people can use firearms on their property while still respecting the rights of gun owners.
The attempt to create such a law has lots of gun owners in Johnston County are chaffing at the possible restrictions.

I was just getting ready to do some target practice from my deck...if we hadn't moved my neighbor had already invited me to partake in deer season this coming fall. The backyard is part od the Neuse basin and he said he has taken a few nice deer in his backyard....
Well I'm not a huge gun control guy, but I would not see any real problem with limiting shooting on small lots. Say anything under 1 acre or maybe include something about how close the next home is.
In many cities and towns it is already against the law to shoot guns.
I think they should regulate gun use on private property. I mean, it should be down to things like proximity to nearest neighbor's property, and so forth. If you own 10 acres and wanna start up your own private shooting range, more power to ya. If you're on a .25 acre lot in a subdivision, you might wanna avoid playing Midnight Cowboy.
As far as I understand it is against the law to discharge a weapon in any city limits and state law say's it has to XXX number of yards from a dwelling already

Well, if the distance limit applies to the whole state and not just in City limits, then no need for the county to do anything else then.
I do remember maybe 20 years ago, a man was killed in an area either in or near the Morrisville town limits as he was looking for civil war artifacts in the woods. A hunter shot at a deer and the bullet travelled some distance (a mile or half mile IIRC) and hit the guy. Investigators actually found deer blood and bone between the hunter and the man, so they are pretty sure the guy hit his target, the bullet just went through and through.
All towns/cities in NC have ordinances against using any type firearm within the city limits. Outside the city limits of any town in NC is fair game. Should stay that way!
