My daughter would like to break into the real estate staging business. She definitely has the eye for it. Are there any stagers or real estate people here who have some suggestions?

My friend does staging in the area, but she is also an interior designer...maybe some classes in ID or decorating would help her? I know there are some courses in staging, but they can be quite expensive...maybe she could google it. Also, maybe look into doing some people's homes she knows, taking photos, get some cards, and go from there!

There are so many dabblers at staging, it can be hard to really get established as a serious stager.

Which is she looking to do?

If she is serious, she should go to as many classes as possible to learn, and she should chat up as many agents as possible to learn what they may want.
The key lesson that escapes many artsy types: Staging is not an end unto itself, but is a means to help reach the true goal, which is to sell a home ASAP and at the highest possible price and the lowest possible cost.
If she can learn to work as a team member towards that goal, that helps her bring value.

No mirrors sitting on floors. I loathe the person that thought that one up. And take down all those homemade window treatments. Unless they are current, they always bring the whole room down.

There's my lay advice. I've got more.

How about the breakfast tray on the bed?!! I immediately think "staged" when I see it!!!

Staging used to be a big thing. I think with the economy being what it is, alot of Agents in my office aren't using stagers as much. Having said that, I usually walk through my clients' home with them and tell them, along with writing it down, what needs to be done. That is their "homework".

When I have sellers that tell me they don't like "living" with the bed "that way", I tell them that is good since the idea is that they aren't going to be living there too much longer!

Having said that, even in this economy, people that are good at what they do will always be successful. So, if staging is what she wants to do, I agree with the other posters...take classes, do some staging for friends and family, take before and after photos, visit some Real Estate offices, leave photos, leave price sheets. Try to offer some "discounts" to get started and hopefully, word of mouth, will get you even more business.
