I'm from DC and I found a place on South blvd. Overseas Seafood is the name. You should call before heading out. My first two visits I was satified, my last visit I gave the whole bag of crabs back to them. They were females that were not ready to be pulled out of the water. You will have to steam them yourself.

I know it’s not the same but a much more reasonably priced alternative is steamed shrimp with plenty of Old Bay seasoning. After a few cold beers and some corn on the cob you’ll be ready for my wife’s famous Karen’s cake dessert. If anyone is interested I can probably get her to share the recipe. It involves layers of cool whip, cream cheese and chocolate pudding. Very refreshing on a hot summers day!

Hey, to all you Marylanders, howz about them O’s, hon?

Default No crabs today

Sorry, but you won't find any hot steamed crabs in ths area yet. As a Maryland ex-patriot, I have lives here since 1983 and I sorely miss them. There are times when you can go to an Asain market and buy live females but with the hard times predicted for females I doubt you can find any.

And be very wary of a 'Maryland Style Crab Cake' on a menue. They aren't.

Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings.

This cracks me up b/c when I read the title of the post, I thought, "why would they want a shipped-in blue crab when they can get a wonderful blue crab from NC?" MD just has done a lot of marketing about their crabs, that's why people think there's something special about them.

It's sort of like people living in FL on the coast and eating at Red Lobster. What is UP with that?

FWIW, my husband is an avid crabber and we lived in FL for 8 years where he did his crabbing. Blue crabs are NOT a MD delicacy.....at least, not exclusively.......

When the Chesapeake became over polluted in the late 70s through 80s much of the "Maryland Blue Crabs" on menus in Maryland were caught in NC. I grew up w/ many kids whose Daddy's were fishermen and made a fair amount of their living selling NC blue crabs to Maryland fish houses.

I understand that the Chesapeake has cleaned up it's act, but still the only East Coast Crabs I eat come straight from a few trusted fishermen. But I never eat any that were caught after a good rain.

NC and La are the two biggest blue crab producing states in the country. Maryland produces very little blue crab harvest. Most Maryland blue crabs are from NC. We are the blue crab capital. Also- soft shell crabs are simply blue crabs with the hard shell removed. I had a soft shell crab sandwhich yesterday in Salter Path that was some kinda good.
