We just moved from NY to Durham. My employer arranged the move, so I didn't have a choice, but I was pleased with Lytle's Moving (Atlas). The loaders in NYC weren't the most professional, but they did a decent job. The unloaders here in NC were great and there was a move coordinator who was courteous and available throughout the move.

We rented a Penske truck, 26 foot I belive, loaded on our own with friends, and then on this end we hired guys from Marrins moving Marrins Moving - Let our Family move your Family, family owned and operated. Although that company does do local moves, truck and all as well, we just hired a few guys to unload the truck. A truck cost us around 600, but we are going back to NJ next week and the same truck is only costing 300.

I wish I had a great recommendation for you but I hated my company. The loaders in NY were great so I felt at ease but it went downhill from there.

Avoid NBA Moving and Storage based out of Brooklyn NY.

I moved from Buffalo, NY to Raleigh a few months ago, and used U-Pack Moving. It was a pain (you have to load a big freight truck yourself) but dirt cheap. We packed it at a terminal instead of door to door since I was in an apt. complex, and it only ended up costing $350 and my stuff arrived in Durham in 4 days and I had to go pick it up in a U-haul. Like I said, it was a pain, but easy on the wallet if you don't mind the work or have some people to help.
