Hello. My husband and I are considering moving to The Triangle Area. We both work in Healthcare. I am a perinatal nurse with 7 years of experience. My husband is a Registered Respiratory Therapist with 3 years of experience.
Can anyone advise as to healthcare salaries in the Triangle Area?
We are trying to determine our earning potential. As you can imagine, this is a major consideration in determining whether or not we will move to NC.
I can't provide info on respiratory therapists but my husband and I are both nurses - he's an RN with about 10 years experience (second career for him) and I'm an oncology NP. We both work for Duke. I don't know where you are coming from but for us, RN salaries were a complete shock. We're from New England and hubby took about a 35% pay cut. Interestingly, my salary was a bit higher here.
RNs start in the very low 20's/hr (and I mean low!)...some of the other area hospitals pay a bit more. A close friend of mine who also works for Duke has been an RN for over 30 years and only makes about $36/hr. This is base salary so you can add to this shift/weekend differential. All nurses with experience at Duke start off as a Clinical nurse II. They have a clinical ladder program and you can get a 5% raise by going from CN II to CNIII and another % from III to IV.
I agree with ljd1010, I am an RN with 11 years experience and I make $28/hr at UNC Hospital, I left REX hospital full-time about 6 months ago to take the UNC job. At REX I made $25.50. REX pays considerably less than the other hospitals in the area

I always thought Rex paid more than most, thanks for this info. I know Duke is about the lowest for RN's.

ljd1010, is your rate a day rate? would either of you happen to know if the area hospitals offer per diem programs or weekend programs? if so, any info on rates?
i currently work a weekend day program, i work 3 out of 4 weekends and the hourly rate is $48. we do not get benefits or earn paid time off.
