Default Best High-speed Internet in the area?

Can anyone comment on who is the best high-speed internet provier in the RTP area? I'm relocating from Utah, and currently use Comcast cable. I've used Sprint before & it wasn't bad either.

What are the costs/speed like there?

Thanks,
Darrell

Time Warner cable has the best internet. In general cable companies services are the best.

On the same topic (don't mean to hijack the thread), We will be moving to Clayton (Williams Pointe Subdivision) in the near future from NY and believe our choices might be between Embarq's DSL and TW Roadrunner (hopefully both truly availale for us). From research online, it appears the fastest choices would be max speeds of 5mbps for Embarq's DSL and 8mbps Roadrunner. Advertised speeds are not always what you will get. DSL is supposed to have more consistent throughput speed with dedicated route to central offices vs cable which has shared bandwidth within neighborhoods. Is there anyone who used both and can compare these 2 choices as to which would be better on average in real world ? (Would appreciate any feedback)

I am coming from cable (Cablevision) on Long Island with their boost package speed of 30mbps download/5mbps upload, so neither choice seems remotely comparable unfortunately. Hopefully additional upgrades will occur in the future and/or additional options for folks.

Thanks in Advance

Time Warner Roadrunner rocks. Great US based tech support too!

Roadunner Lite is $20 less and pretty good unless you need fast downloads.

I think overall cable internet is going to have higher speeds than DSL. It just depends on what you need. AT&T is offering some pretty nice combo packages if you bundle services (phone, internet, Directv, cellular). I also think DSL is also less reliable on older wiring - I had huge problems in my last neighborhood (30 years old), and just wound up going to cable.

I wasn't happy at all with the non-digital Time Warner channels though and wound up going back to Directv. I don't have high-def so can't speak to that. Both Directv and Time Warner prices for television seem outrageous once you get past the initial 'new subscriber' deals.

With 3 different NFL teams being followed in the same household, Directv is well worth it during football season. After that I could do without.

What I am seeing so far (haven't yet moved down) is cost for cable / internet / phone appears to be comparable to what I am paying here in NY, just with much slower internet speeds available per my original post above. Of course, thats where the comparability ends in terms of costs.

Right now, paying $190+ per month here on Long Island for "Gold" TV package (no on demand or premium sports like league pass, etc), but most other movie channels, etc. with 1 HD-DVR box, 2 standard boxes, 30mbps down / 5mbps up Internet and 1 VOIP unlimited local / long distance phone from cable.

Outrageous it is !

Try Roadrunner. Standard RR is blazing fast. RR Lite is slower.

Roadrunner's service can be spotty if you are on the frontier of the metro area, e.g. NW Johnston County. Might have gotten better since I've been gone, but I wasn't getting any 11 mps (wireless, to boot) like now.

DSL is so last decade. It is usually overpriced and just a step above dialup.
