I just remembered that the house right across the street from where I grew up, in such a neighborhood (Lots of great trees, large front yard on a "rounded corner", I've actually been inside the house many times) is for sale. Built around 1968, 3BR upstairs, one "office/BR" downstairs, nice back yard. Let me see if I can find a listing for it and get a price

EDIT: Just found it--it's not under $225 K nor really even close. Tax value is $267K and they are asking quite a bit above that...oh well.

There is a pretty neighborhood off Ten Ten in Cary called Orchard Knoll. It has large lots and it's heavily wooded along one side. It's a mix of colonial and ranch homes and it has a very neighborly feel.

Thanks much for the info -- that brings up another issue -- isn't there a protected corridor for the new 540 in southern Wake between I-40 and Fuquay-Varina? But can't NCDOT still put the road where they want it? That's the reason we're looking at F-V proper and south, so we don't get caught up in that mess. Any thoughts?

The problem with fuquay is that there wasn't much here 15 years ago, much less 50 years ago, so not many older homes. I do like the old section of town, east of downtown fuquay, but the times I've looked there hasnt been anything for sale there.

There are several websites which offer the ability to search the local MLS listings. You can find them through any search engine.

If you look at the planning maps, 540 is supposed to go a few miles south of that neighborhood. I don't think it's considered to have much of an impact there but I understand why you'd want to look toward Fuquay. Have you done any searches on realtor.com?

One other neighborhood is coming to mind - Dutchman Downs - which is off Penny Rd and it's either Cary or Raleigh address. It is a mix of colonials and ranch and it has lots of trees and very large lots. I love it personally because of all the trees and it is a very quiet, family oriented neighborhood. You will have no concern with 540 over there and it's conveniently located.
