You are 100% correct. And I love how all of the people with thier stories always stick to the speed limit. YA RIGHT!
Like I said to my councilors, if you're so concerned with kids' safety, why not have the police crack down on speeders. That's the problem, not the kids! Most neighborhoods have a 15 to 20 mph limit. If you cannot safely stop your car at that speed you have no business whatsoever driving.

our neighborhood main road is 35 mph. when there's a group of 10 kids in the street that make no move to acknowledge, much less move out of the way of a vehicle traveling 35+ mph, there's a problem.
cul-de-sacs are probably less of an issue to me. but really the problem rests with lazy parents who don't give a rip to either watch their kids or at least teach their kids road safety.

The streets and alleys in our neighborhood get really bad with playing kids. We've already had at least one kid struck by a car and killed in our neighborhood since we moved here in 2005. You'd think after that happening that parents would try to get their kids under control. Instead, I think some just bought those kid at play signs. It is just a matter of time before another kid gets killed.

Definitely should post cameras and offficers at every subdivision to get a handle on this horrendous epidemic.
They should also use tax dollars to police noisy kids in restaurants next - that is a menace to society likely to bring the whole system down and needs to.end.now!

I seriously doubt anyone is gonna get arrested/ticketed very often under this new law.
It'll probably be used more as a deterrent. And, that's cool.
Clearly, there were too many delightful moppets littering up the thoroughfares in the Peak.

Exactly. Seat belt laws are basically never enforced on their own, but just having them leads to voluntary compliance.

So wait... you're OK with a law because the cops would choose properly when and when not to enforce it. "No biggie?!".
Holy cow. I mean you do realize that when it's a law... it's a LAW. I don't even know what to say about people that ambivalent to what our government sticks their nose into.
and we wonder why people rail of bloat at all levels of government.

I'm not sure that 100% enforcement of 100% of the laws 100% of the time is an anti government bloat /keep the goverment noses out of our business position.

Hey Mikeykid...we gotta post for that! There was a lovely thread a while back about kids in restaurants....
Like HS dude said, I'm just glad HS let common sense prevail and move on to more pressing issues...with a little persuation from me & a large number of my fellow towns people!

I don't think the Holly Springs and Apex issue are as similar as people are implying. There is a big difference between the effort needed to prevent a proposed idea (good or bad) from becoming a law (like in Holly Springs) and the legal wrangling needed to remove a law that has been on the books for some time (like in Apex). It isn't so much about letting "common sense prevail" as it is who can make the best legal arguement. The issues the Apex folks face with a law already on the books are much more complicated and difficult to solve than what the Holly Springs folks had to deal with since it was just a draft proposal in their case. A bunch of angry parents showing up at a handful of town council meetings isn't enugh to change a law on the books.
