A friend I know in Tennessee said she found a copperhead in her yard and called an exterminator. He sprayed the whole yard with a "garlic" spray. He told her snakes are like vampires, neither one like garlic. Worth a try.

NO repellants will keep them away! Remove the food source and habitat and you won't have a problem. Copperheads tend to be more active during the evening hours and can be quite aggressive. Not unusual for them to stand their ground. Shortly after birth, the young ones are just as poisonous as their adult counterparts.

I have heard that it is better to be bit by the older snakes than the young. Older snakes have more control over their venom and often will bite, but not release venom on the first bite--waiting to release the venom if you foolishly try to touch them again. The younger ones don't have control over their venom and release it all on the first bite. . .

You yuppie materialistic suburban dwellers never cease to amaze me. During the past 30 years lightning killed an average of 58 people. 32 people annually die from dog bites. Bee stings kill approximately 50 people a year. Mosquito's and ticks kill thousands. These are statistics from the USA. The number of people on average that die annually from copperhead bites in this country is ZERO despite this snake being the most widespread of any venomous reptile in the country. The odds of you getting killed by your neighbor statistically are much higher than that of a creature 1/100 your own size. You people are pathetic and weak! Drop down and give me 20…

No problems with the spiders yet, but the dirt sure loves jumping in over the tops.

I'm sure he'd be amused if he woke up one night to find he was sharing his bed with a copperhead
