Does anyone in the area carry vegetable seedlings from someone other than Bonnie? I have been to HD, Lowes, Walmart and Ace and they all seem to carry only Bonnie products. I have purchased their seedlings this year, but like to have a variety of "vendors". Bonnie seems to have cornered the market. I also have noticed places carry very few of the smaller seedlings, carrying mostly the larger (more expensive) sizes.
(I do know about Craig The Tomato Man, but have not had a chance to go by the Farmer's Market yet.)
If you have time to head up to Wake Forest between now & Sunday, HerbFest has organic seedlings of tomatoes, peppers, squash and a few others. We love their heirloom tomato plants!
Stone Bros in Durham is awesome, but why not start your own seedlings indoors and then transfer them outside later? It will save you a bunch of $$
I have done that with cukes and peppers. The cukes work well but I only seem to have success with the hot varieties of the peppers. For some reason, the bell peppers I start from seeds are pathetic. I have not tried tomatoes. I do have success with several varieties of okra, planting seeds directly in the soil, as long as I wait for it warm up enough.
