Thinking of putting up a fence over a 20' x 60 ' backyard. How much would material, labor, and install run me?

When I lived in MD and had a smaller yard then that and wood 6 ' fence , long fence wanted 3,000.00 Fiance and I are putting up a picket fence 4' ourselves and I tell you, it is the hardest job i ever had to do. My body is killing me from the post holes that we dug. 24 post holes and we used a gas powered digger but it takes alot out of you. Wish we had the money to hire someone. But today most of fence is put up. wooohooooo.

We had 3 companies give us estimates. One of the companies, Fence Works, was just starting out - he used to work for one of the big companies here. Their estimates for 245 linear feet of wood fence were:

5' tall privacy fence:
Seegars - $16.30 per linear foot
Dickerson - $18.81 per linear foot

5' tall shadow box fence:
Seegars - $18.64 per linear foot
Dickerson - $20.81 per linear foot

Neither company split material and labor costs. I'm sure they mark up materials quite a bit.

Fence Works estimates were all lower since he's just starting out and needs to establish his reference base before he can compete with the established companies at the same price.

After some bargaining with the HOA, we eventually went with a 6 foot wood shadow box fence with a scalloped pattern. Fence Works presented us with an inventory list and we purchased the material. The materials came out to about $1900 after taxes, delivery, 10% off coupon. Fence Works then just charged us a flat fee for labor.

The numbers will be much higher if you decide not to go with wood and use vinyl. We got one estimate for a vinyl fence that was over 3x the price of wood. It also will depend a bit on what type of fence you pick. Picket fences will have fewer pickets, privacy will use more, and shadow box will use still more. Also depends a bit on the number and size of gates and whether you want expensive post caps.

Here are some pictures of our new fence:

CJ Improvements Fence Company Raleigh NC Installs Wood Vinyl Chain link fences (http://www.cjimprovements.com/ - broken link)

I had 2 styles of fence installed in the last couple of weeks.

6' Privacy fence (single board) $13 per sq. ft.
4' picket fence (French gothic) $12 per sq. ft. Would have done it for $10 per sq. ft. if my lot was flat.

Give them a call...great guys, small company. I am very satisfied with their work.

I had a handyman install a 6' dog ear fence for $14 per linear ft and Budget Fence in Fuquay gave me the same price quote.

I have (3) fence lines 6 ft. high of 75', 75', 60', and (1) gate. How much would labor be to install the 6 ft. fence?
