LOL, or an "Urban Archeologist" (the guys who look through 20 year old landfills)
haha, I guess I shouldn't laugh. I did take an old custom built computer from a guy at the Trash Convenience center in N Raleigh....It's now hosting one of my websites lol.
Yup, and for a long time I had an old DOS machine, set up to do floppy formatting. (Back when there was floppies!)
I call my scrap box a Frankenstein Box as I could build 2-3 PCs from it's parts, but they would be about as youthful as old Frank's son.
I always wondered if the founder's unfortunate name had something to do with the company's demise.
But to sort-of answer the OP's question, you may be able to find N.O.S. 5-1/4 inch drives at flea markets and computer swap meets.
If only I could find any!!! I have lived in Atlanta and DC, where they both held regular computer flea markets/swap meets, but the only event even closely similar here in RDCH is an annual ham radio fest that has a very minor mention of computers buried within the description.
Do you know of any computer flea markets locally????? Please???!!!!
This may be a terrible suggestion, but maybe it would work. Have you tried using Freecycle? You can post "Wanted"-type ads, and if anyone reads it who just happens to realize they have a really old drive just hanging out... they might want to just give it to you. I am currently enamored with Freecycle, and it certainly wouldn't hurt to post an ad just asking if anyone in the area had one for ya. I got a neat old computer from someone on there that I've been very slowly refurbishing!
