Default A call out to my Hillsborough/Eno area friends - what is that loud "alien" sound

I hear this whine/high pitched drone in the air - I drove around to see what it was and cannot seem to pinpoint it, sounds like it is coming from the park. I heard it near Pleasant green and Cole Mill Rd as well as Dumont Drive and St. Mary's - anyone else seem to hear this during the day? Does anyone know what it might be??

ps: yes it IS the cicadas... cute little red eyed ones to be exact. The green ones that chatter all summer are always here, these have been fermenting underground for the past 13 years!

I rode my bike on Cole Mill, Pleasant Green & St. Mary's on Sunday and the cicadas were definitely loud through there. We live next to Eno SP and the cicadas in our forest are exceptionally loud as well.

my oldest says it sounds like a UFO trying to land in a rainforest. He even remembers the sound from the last time... when he was 4.
