My family will be moving to Raleigh from Chicago next fall and my son will be a senior in High School at that time. We currently live in a very upscale area on the North Shore of Chicago with a top rated High School. Does anyone have a suggestion for either a private or public High School with an outstanding reputation in Raleigh. Of course the school determines where we live but generally where are the more affluent, upscale areas in Raleigh. Thanks for your suggestions.

Look Inside the Beltline in the Broughton High School district. Any "in town" realtor in town will be able to guide you effectively with that criteria. Even if you choose a private school like Hale High or Ravenscroft, this area will be pretty convenient.

Home prices are at a premium in this part of Raleigh but it will probably not be a big deal for someone coming from the North Shore of Chicago. Raleigh and Wake County have a huge inventory of fantastic luxury homes and neighborhoods but the older neighborhoods that are in the Broughton district are definitely more of the old school blue blood variety.

ITB - Inside the Beltline with Broughton.

Another area to look at might be the Preston area in Cary NC - with Green Hope High as the high school (public) or Cary Academy (private)

A lot of folks have moved into the Brier Creek area with the new-ish country club. Not sure what those school assignments are.

Also, there are lovely upscale neighborhoods in North Raleigh --
Wakefield Plantation with Wakefield high school and driving distance of Ravenscroft.
On Norwood Road there are two developments with 1m+ houses - The Registry and ___ my mind is drawing a blank with the other name...
As you go up Creedmoor Rd from norwood, there are several developments - many of those folks are sending their kids to Ravenscroft or Cary Academy or some such private high school.

Best of luck as you transition to the south.
