I know some of you are looking for furniture. I have no connection to Havertys other than I stopped in for a look. The salesguy I was working with said that this weekend Haverty's is having a sale. Basically everything is 7% off. It's to go along with the States Tax Free Weekend. I don't think they can waive the sales tax but basically since you get the 7% discount then it's like not paying taxes.

I'm sorry if this against the rules. Just thought some of you folks looking for furniture could save a few bucks.

No, but you gave an idea to enterprising types among us who could bill any sale as a "tax-free weekend."

Funny you mention that because there was an article I read this week about how it illegal for businesses to advertise stuff as tax free this weekend that is not on the list. They have to advertise that is on sale, just like normal.

But that's the thing - it's not really tax-free. It is more like a "tax rebate" sale.

It's semantics, really.

Is it really worth the trip to the manufactures or Furniture land south to get a deal on furniture?D Do the local furniture stores compete???

There are a bunch of locally-owned (at least they look and feel like they're locally owned) furniture stores down around Smithfield and Selma.

Between them, the flea markets and the outlet mall it's a bargain hunter's paradise down there.
