We pay a lovely $13/mth for our garbage pick up, but you recycle on your own. Which is fine the recycling center is conveniently located.
We have no sewer or water bills.
BUT! We are in S. Granville, not Wake. So there better be a difference,

I live in N. Raleigh (in the city limits) and am therefore on city water and sewer. Below is what I paid for water/sewer, trash, recycling, along with the storwmater fee. The storwmter fee is collected by the city to fund an Engineering Position and stormwater program to comply with the Neuse River Stormwater and other Environmental Regulations. Some people like to complain that it is some sort of "Rain Tax" but I think it is a good thing and it goes a long way to ensure all the development in Raleigh is not destroying the water quality.

I get a Bill Every two months. Water consumption is only for two people, and while I do hand water my flower bed, I do not irrigate my lawn (it is already dead!) Hope this helps!

$17.25 Residential Water-Metered
$15.32 Residential Sewer-Assoc.Water
$16.60 Recycle/Solid Waste Services
$8.00 Stormwater Fee

Grand Total: $57.17

Water is obviously metered and you pay for what you use. Does anyone know how sewer bills are calculated? I'm assuming some formula tied to water usage based on the fact my water and sewer bills are close in dollar amounts.

I live in Youngsville, Franklin County . . .

Trash (Shaw) = $24/month
Water (Franklin County) = $45/month
Sewer = $0/month, since I have a private septic system

Here's a chart that the City of Raleigh uses in comparing its costs of service to other North Carolina communities:

They might consider, in *rural* areas like northwest Johnston County where there are several waste management companies running around, contracting one single firm for a particular area. Kinda like cable.

I remember seeing three or four different garbage trucks going around where I used to live, only picking up for their customers. It's loud (especially at around 6 am when you might still be sleeping) it further congests already-congested roads because they will block off half the road at every stop, and it is wasteful from an energy standpoint. And it's expensive.

Sewer in Raleigh is based on water consumption. Assumed that most of the water you use goes back into the sewer - kind of like beer, eh?

Except in summer most of the water goes into your lawn, not the sewer. But it seems logical to tie the two together.

In rural Orange County:

Trash: 0 (we take our trash/recycling to the dump ourselves)
Water: 0 (we have a well)
Sewage: 0 (we have a septic tank)

Zero for us. We have a well and septic, and take our trash/recyclables to the local convenience center ourselves once a week.
