Default Anyone know of an inexpensive hotel/motel in Durham?

We've moved out of our house in New Mexico and are currently staying with friends in Maryland, but I'd really like to be in Durham getting my bearings. Problem is, we don't close on the house until August 15th. We spent one night at a nice La Quinta right by the new house, but at $100 a night, staying there a whole week is a bit pricey. (I just looked at how much it's going to cost me to get the two cars registered...) But I really want to be in Durham!! Don't get me wrong, the Eastern Shore is lovely, but did I mention I really want to be in Durham??

The cat's at Paws at Play in Wake Forest, so it's just me, my son and the lizard. The new house is near Garrett and Highway 15 or Chapel Hill Road - I think that's what it's called. Pretty close to I-40. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm dying to go to the Arboretum in Ralleigh next Sunday. I know I'm not going to have any time once the movers show up with our stuff. The yard is a mess - and we're coming from the desert. I've go no clue what to plant here. I'm itching to do something!

My father used to swear by the Carolina-Duke Motor Inn at 2517 Guess Road in Durham when he came to visit us in Durham. My dad has rather spartan tastes, so I can't really vouch for it myself, having never been inside, but he said that the motel was very reasonably priced, clean and quiet.

Carolina-Duke Inn is definitely cheap, but sometimes there's some drama around that place. Just a few weeks ago, the police cornered a fugitive in one of the rooms. I'd go with priceline.com or hotwire.com or one of those websites for alternatives.

Good grief! OK, scratch that suggestion. My Dad is in his own little world of frugality...

Another great place to check is the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau lodging website at durhamreservations.com. You can search for extended stay (weekly rates) properties in Southwest Durham, where your new home is:

Durham, NC | Lodging | Search Durham Lodging

Two ideas if the discounters don't work out:

Red Roof, near the intersection of 15-501 and 40:
Red Roof Inn Durham North Carolina Hotel

and the extended stay suites near the corner of Martin Luther King Pkwy and University Dr.... Homestead Suites Extended Stay, Corporate Relocation and Long Term Hotels - Homestead Studio Suites Hotels
(It is the one listed there as being on Ivy Creek Rd)

Both look about 55 a night
