I have a nickel allergy and have the worst time wearing earrings. My 11 year old is getting her ears pierced. A friend took her daughter to Pediatric Express, and that's our regular urgent care, but they told me today that their piercing earrings have nickel in them.

Anyone know any place that guarantees nickel free in starter earrings?

They won't let you bring your own?! That's weird.

Sorry to change the subject and not have advice but do you like Pediatric Express? I just heard of them when I got an advertising postcard in the mail.

I don't know if they would let us bring our own--usually starter earrings are different than everyday ones, right? They were when I was a teen and got mine done.

We like Pediatric Express just fine. What I don't like is that my accident prone kid gets charged like $300 for a sling/temporary case when she hurts herself and the insurance company doesn't reimburse for that. Grrrrrrrrr.

Does surgical steel have nickel in it? I know that gold does.

Huh, when we (I have 3 sisters) got our ears pierced all they told us was pick out post earrings. My sister chose white gold, my other sister chose pearls and I chose regular gold....

Why wouldn't your insurance pay?!

Hang onto those slings!

Commercial, and not exactly an answer for you, but I felt like this link might be of interest to you:

Home of Wear Earrings Again with Maggie's Creations - Non-Allergenic Jewerly, guaranteed!

(Should at least have some new ideas if you haven't considered them yet...)

Good luck.

You could do it yourself old school...ice down and a Stainless pin..then insert your gold earings

sounds barbaric I know, but I did my own ears when I was young because:

A. Back then "boys" didn't wear earrings (the cool kids do mom i said)
B. i had to take it out when i got home lol

Ah ha! Titanium. There's a trace amount of nickel, but it's considered safe for people with nickel sensitivity.

I've seen Titanium piercing studs at pretty much all of those Piercing Pagoda places in the mall.

Just an idea.

Call the piercing shops. They really are the experts when it comes to piercings (yes even ears) and would have the most information.
