I'm visiting Chapel Hill and Cary next week to look at some houses. I'd like to enjoy some great restaurants while I'm there. Can you give me some tips on places I should try? I'll be travelling with my two young kids so I'd like to keep it casual. Thanks! Michelle

In Chapel hill, I would say Crooks Corner, Mama Dips, and 501 Diner or Elmos' Diner are really great! Elmo's is in Carrboro, in Carmill mall, and is so so so good, but all of the ones listed are really good! Crooks has amazing shrimp and grits, and BBQ. Mama Dips is good ole southern cooking and both restaurants are staples to the history of Chapel Hill...............

Okay... Cary!

We're mostly chains here, but some good places that are kid-friendly would be:

TriBeCa Tavern- the burgers are awesome
Ginza- excellent sushi and hibachi
ZPizza- chain, but great organic pizza

Good luck!

For Mexican in Chapel Hill, try La Fiesta Grille. OR, come to Mebane and go to La Cocina. Either one would be top notch Mexican fare. este es la verdad.

I know it was already mentioned but wanted to specifically say that Tribeca has a great kids' menu. $5 includes drink and dessert, and the entree choices have your basic burgers etc but also grilled chicken, shrimp, and a whole bunch of other stuff I am not thinking of right now. And they make fresh squeezed lemonade!

All these options sound great! I'll definitely stop at TriBeCa as my son LOVES burgers.

I'd also recommend:

Foster's Market in Chapel Hill - definitely casual enough for young kids and great food for all.

I don't know Cary as well for eating with young kids, but places with great food include:
Martin's Curry Rice - casual and great if you like food cooked to order - very fresh veggies, etc & there is a pizza place next door if your kids don't want Rice/Veggies.
Biaggi's (more formal) but the food is quite lovely. Not sure I've seen kids in there.
Serendipity for lunch - this is definitely casual enough for kids and you have to try the chicken salad...

A few suggestions for restaurants that would be suitable for kids:

Top of the Hill or Spanky's, both on the corner of Franklin Street and Columbia Avenue.
P.T.'s Old Fashioned Grille at Rosemary and Henderson
Kildare's Irish Pub or Carolina Brewery, both on W. Franklin Street
