Has anyone relocated to the Triangle from the Chicago area within the last few years? How does the summer weather compare both in temperatures AND humidity?

I have never lived in Chicago, but thanks to business trips I have spent about 6 months there. There's no comparing the summer weather. Chicago's summer is equivilent to Raleigh's spring. July in Chicago is 80's with low to medium humidity while July in Raleigh is 90's with medium to high humidity.

The flip side of that is you can expect snow/freezing temperatures in Chicago as late as april.

I lived in Chicago from 1997 to 2001. The summer climate here is very different. On average I would say it's much hotter and more humid and the summer weather lasts much longer. For me, the mild winter climate more than makes up for this.

I think Jello above is insane. I lived in an un-airconditioned walk-up the summer of '95 when Chicago had literally hundreds of heat-related deaths. Chicago summers can be absolute torture and, per my memory, temps in the 90s were pretty commonplace during the summer months.

I moved here from Chicago 3 years ago. I think the summers were just as hot back home... it's just that Chicago summers didn't last as long as they do here. That said, what's your living arrangement like in Chi-town? I NEVER had central air--just a window unit in the bedroom if I was lucky, and that's it. Plus, I always had a mile or greater walk to the El (uphill, both ways ) so... I always thought Chicago summers were BRUTAL. Here, I've got central AC and my car is parked right out front. If I didn't force myself to go outside, I'd never even know how hot/humid it was. KWIM? Unless you have to work outdoors, I just can't imagine the summer weather here being a deterrent.

When I went apartment hunting in the middle of May 1997, Chicago was seriously frigid--obviously unseasonable, but more likely there than here. I looked at average highs by month (on msn) for Chicago and Cary for May through September. They were 70, 80, 84, 83 and 76 for Chicago and 79, 85, 89, 87 and 81 for Cary. In my opinion, this is a fairly sizeable difference. Needless to say, I wouldn't want to live in an unairconditioned home in either location.

I was born and raised in Chicago. Other than the longer summers here I'd say temp is comparable. I just got back from Chicago last week before a big heat wave was expected. I worked in an unairconditioned bank in the summer of 95 (when all those people were dying) and it was absolutely miseable. And I attended a friend's outdoor wedding in June of 97 and froze my butt off because of the unseasonably cold temps. Those are the only 2 freak weather differences I can remember. Chicago definitely gets plenty hot with plenty of humidity just like it does here IMO.
