So who doesn't love it when they have car problems!!!
I'm pretty new to the area and haven't had a need for a mechanic (besides an oil change). Really DO NOT want to go to PepBoys or Honda Dealership, but car is really in bad shape! Need a new cat convertor for inspection to pass and my AC just broke today! Good thing it's almost July
Anyway, I could really us the name of a good mechanic. Know very little about cars and don't want to get screwed. Please help!

What kind of car? I only ask because some mechanics specialize in certain types of vehicles.
Don't know where you're located, but after hearing many, many recommendations for WASP auto from a variety of sources, we went last time we needed our toyota fixed, and they lived up to the reputation. Give 'em a try. They specialize in Japanese cars.
I remember a few people asking a similar question. If you do a search for "honda repair", you'll find the thread. I did see this guy was recommended a couple of times:

yes! i had the recommendation from this board for dale & used him a couple of times for straight oil changes (the convenience + pricing can't be beat) just to "test him out". i have now had him service my honda for about a year & have always found him to be very knowledgeable & considerate.
i recently sold my old honda & purchased a newer one. he was amazing throughout that process -- offering to tell others about the car (although my car sold in about 8 hours on craigslist), keeping an out for a used honda to my specs for me, & answering all of my many questions about the hybrid i ended up purchasing. he really sealed the deal for me when he agreed to look at the vehicle we were purchasing for free. that free inspection was him taking about an hour to carefully look over bit of the frame & engine, answering my questions, & even speaking with the guy i was purchasing from.
having someone steer me to him was on of the best recommendations ever from this board.
As a reference for honesty - I was about 5K miles past the warranty period and had a power steering problem that was going to run about $750+. Quality Plus instructed me to go back to the dealer and Honda customer service and ask for an accommodation. I would up getting it done at the dealer for $275. I don't know of too many mechanics that would do that.
I too would encourage you to head to WASP. They are great, honest and reasonably priced.
