My DH and I were all set to retire to Holly Springs or Willow Springs. The plan was for our DD and SIL and our 4 g. children to relocate with us. When SIL started looking at jobs available with his top secret security clearance as systems admin, it appears there are many more jobs in Ft. Bragg/ Fayetteville area. We looked at Spring Lake, Fayetteville, Cameron and Sanford areas a few weeks ago. Don't get me wrong, we saw some nice homes but in general I did not like the area nearly as well as HS and WS. We would just go ahead with our plans to settle where we planned but being an hour away would be difficult after being 2 miles apart here. My SIL does not want more than 30 minute commute and we don't want to be more than 30 minutes from them. The area is so transient due to the base. Anyone out there love their home/neighborhood/town and it fits our criteria? Any help/ideas are appreciated.
Fuquay Varina is nice in Harnett County just over the wake county line. It is between Raleigh and Ft. Bragg. Easy access to 401. It close to Holly Springs and Willow Spring.
Do you really have to be that close to your daughter? Or to be blunt, does your daughter really want you that close? Really, an hour isn't that far away. It makes the grandparents *special.*
My brother in law lives in Clayton, off Hwy. 42. He drives to Fayetteville for work and says it takes him an hour but I don't know where in Fayetteville he drives to.
I have HEARD that Fayetteville has really gotten much better.

Off to watch an "Everybody Loves Raymond" rerun.
some people like their family.
i like my family living halfway across the country LOL
skaternum...yes, she really does want us that close. She has 3 year old triplets and a bonus baby who turns one next month. We have been very involved g.parents since day one. Thanks for the suggestions but I still think that the suggested places are more like 40-45 min. commute rather than the 30 minutes or less my SIL desires. I guess it makes more sense to wait until he gets a job offer and worry about places within the 30 minute commute range when we actually know where the job will be!
I lived in Spring Lake right out of college and disliked the area..
Just has a bad feel to it.
