We had site-finished hardwoods put in downstairs and matched them to the hardwoods already in our dining room. As JohnE1000 suggested, they fully stripped down the existing floors and refinished everything together. I can't tell where the seam between the flooring is. The estimate was $7.85 / sq ft for the new installation, and $2.60 for the refinishing. They also charged separately for the removal, which was $4 /sq ft to remove tile and $1.50 /sq ft to remove linoleum and $0.35 /sq ft to remove carpet.

Thanks for all the input. The fact that while one room may need wood, but the entire rest of the floor will need refininshing to look good was important to know, as I was only going to figure the cost for the new floor.

Granite seems to cost more here than in FL, but that is probably because most of it comes into the port of Miami.

I will check out the places mentioned, thanks again!
