So I have read all the wcpss posts and many seem old but even the newer ones it seems people are unhappy. We'll have 2 in middle school and 1 going in to 4th who need special ed resource for math and reading. We are very disappointed in our current district re: so ed services and its a big part of our wanting to move. Should we try to stay out off wake co? My husband will be working in morrisville and I will be in burlington but I only have to go to the office 2 days a week-according to mapquest its around an hour commute. I do that now so not too concerned. Durham would be more central but I'm cautious about Durham schools reputation...chapel hill is out of our price range. Any thoughts or recommendations?
TIA!

Well, if you live in Morrisville, you could be at a number of middle schools: West Cary, East Cary, Reedy Creek, Davis Drive ...it's sort of chopped up without a bit of logic to it. Have you chosen a home yet? I would avoid those whose base assignment is E. Cary b/c it's very far and next year's changes will mean you might have issues. Let us know where in Morrisville you plan to live and we can go from there.

IMHO you will be better off in Morrisville than any where else I can think of. Having your husband work close to home is important. No point in both of you commuting.

I would bet you'll be happy with Morrisville. It is often the case that people are trying to get their kids IN to these schools. While there is a lot of turmoil right now with policy and the school board, you have to remember that parents who are happy and content aren't usually the ones compelled to speak out and post about it.

I know a couple of people who LOVED Morrisville Elementary. Not sure what middle schools you'd be assigned to.....but as pp said the people who are dissatisfied are usually the most vocal about it.

You would among the fortunate in the triangle if your kids attended Morrisville schools! It's a great location. Davis Dr schools are excellent! And they are ethnically diverse...folks from all over the world there.

According to realtor schools are elem-carpenter, middle-davis drive and high-green hope. Other concern is that carpenter is year round and davis dr isnt-I need my kids and the same schedule! The house is in Wexford subdivision. Thanks!

Oh, ok!! Wexford is super nice. I live in "the 60" and I really love it. Our school assignments are stupid, though. All good schools, but total nonsense.

You likely have Green Hope as a traditional option, and that's a great school as well--you could go Green Hope Elementary, Davis Drive Middle, and Green Hope High and never go wrong a bit. HOWEVER, if the blue plan goes through, Wexford's closest schools would be Cedar Fork (traditional)/Carpenter YR/Davis Drive Middle/Panther Creek High which is NOT a logical feeder pattern. So I'm not sure if you'd get your first choice....or how grandfathering would work beyond elementary/middle/high.

Not to say you'd have a disruption, but you might, since the current assignments are NOT the closest schools.

Just to be clear, they won't force you to send one child to year round and one child to traditional.

Well.....they have to offer a traditional alternative but if it's "full" (god only knows exactly what that means) they can deny your application to the traditional school (only the base is a guarantee). Happened to me this year.
