Any other unexpectedly pronounced towns in the area?
![]() Thanks to this forum I found out how to prounounce Fuquay-Varina before moving to the area Feww - quay - vuh - rina Equal emphasis on first and second syllables not Foo - quay - vuh - rina as I had thought Sandycat informed me at the latest meetup how to pronounce Mebane: Meh - bin Emphasis on the first syllable and rhyming with "heaven" not Me - bane as I had thought And tonight the native cashier at Borders pronounced Bahama for me! I think I've already forgotten how you say it It's not all exotic sounding like the islands ![]() I think it was buh (like duh) - hame - uh with an emphasis on "hame" which rhymes with "came"? Try Chalybeate Springs south of Fuquay
Northerner Tip for the Day: Ka- Libby- ut Springs. That is how you pronounce it. The guys at the BP "the Cupboard" are laughing at you when you call it "chally beet" ![]() |

An how does Wendell sound like WIN-dale? I figured that out from WRAL...they kept talking about WIN-dale...and then showed Wendell on the map..I finally put 2&2 together.

When I first moved here saying "Fuquay-Varina" would get my mouth washed out with soap as a kid.

My first week here, I was at a jobsite in Fuquay, and a feller told me he would meet me in Wendell, "Windale," and he drove off. I had to do some quick cypherin' to put 2+2 together and get to Wendell. ![]() |
