Hi there,

I just posted that we'll soon move to the Raleigh area and would be glad to get some advice on nice activities with small kids (3 / 1 yr old) to introduce to the US...

Thanks a lot,

Sandra

My kids love Marbles downtown - probably not really good for one year old but the three year old might enjoy it. Carolina Parent magazine would be a good resource - you can pick one up for free in a variety of places and they have tons of event listings, etc. (they are also online - carolinaparent.com)

Museum of Life and Science in Durham
Pullen park in Raleigh (has a park area and also a swimming pool)
Kidzu in Chapel Hill was always a hit with my kids when they were younger

I would definitely look at the carolina parent magazine online, they have a calendar of events, and definitely have great ideas for things around the triangle!

The Museum of Life and Science in Durham is the most overrated place to ever call themselves a museum, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I'm shocked they have the nerve to charge $13 for adults and $10 for children. There are NUMEROUS better museums that don't charge any admission, or anywhere near as much as Life & Science. I've been 3 times now, and got in free with corporate sponsor admission, and will never go again. Nothing has changed.

My girls are 9 and 7 and have been going since they were 5 and 3 and they still love it! they love the things that haven't changed, and love seeing the new items. We go several times a year and they are so happy when we do!

You're the first person I've heard say anything negative! We're beginning our third year now as members. My kids are constantly begging me to take them there. Whenever we take anyone from out of town, they always love it too.

In addition to the suggestions posted here, OP, I would also recommend joining an online group (TriangleMommies or one of the ones on MeetUp.com). I'm always amazed at the wide variety of things there are to do on a daily basis here. Even when I'm not able to make the events scheduled, it's a great way to hear about everything there is available here to do.

i probably wouldn't be inclined to pay $13/person, but a membership, especially if you live in Durham, is a great bargain and we spend many many hours there and my son never tires of going.

Maybe you're not looking at it through the eyes of a child.
