will the next winner of American Idol also be from the Triangle? More than 250 contestants are lined up at Cary Towne Center for todays auditions.

Hmmm, I was under the impression the auditions were for WRAL's local version of American Idol.

The winner gets a guaranteed tryout with the producers of AI. When you go to an AI audition, you have to sing for the producers before you even get before the judges. So winning this means essentially....not much. But this area does seem to have an edge in that competition!
