Straight out route 40. In fact if you are going to Carolina, Kure or Fisher it is a straight road the entire way. 40 changes names when you get to Wilmington and again when you get to Carolina Beach but the same road.
Very true....once on I-40 East, you'd be hard pressed to NOT find these beaches. There's hardly anything between Raleigh and Wilmington to distract you save a crossing with I-95 and a peppering of exits with gas and fast food options. Almost half way between Raleigh and Wilmington, you'll find a state run rest stop for potty breaks and stretching legs if you need it. But, given that it's a 2 hour+/- drive, you probably won't need it.

Speak for yourself My cars are both trained and know to stop at exit 364 each way.

LOL....
Well, I can surely tell you that don't want drive with me from Miami to Raleigh. I drive 600 miles without stopping (that's when I run out of gas).

Sure can and do it all the time. That's one of the best things about Raleigh. Another alternative is Atlantic Beach which is only 2.5 hours due east. If from Chapel Hill add 45 mins to that.
