I did a search for a thread on this topic, but didn't find one specifically about it.
What are the opinions on the Bull City Connector bus line? Keep in mind that this question is coming from someone having never lived in a city with proper public transit.
Is it fairly reliable and safe? Could one use it to get to and from work if living along that bus line?

I would say the bus line is 100% reliable and safe. There's always folks on the bus, so you're never stuck sitting on an empty bus trapped with one other person. All the drivers are very nice folks, too, so if you feel uneasy about public transit just sit in the front seat near the driver.
The bus doesn't necessarily run 100% on schedule (it may be 3 or 4 minutes late/early), but with 15 minutes headways, you'll never have to wait long for the next one.
I use the bus to get to work whenever it is too hot to bike, and a few nights a week to get around town.
Rumor is that the bus will get extended hours on Friday and Saturday night, along with Sunday hours added, starting some time in the Fall.
I haven't used the Bull City Connector, but once, in a pinch,I took a Triangle Transit from The airport on a long loop around Durham (the only way to get where I needed to be). The folks at work were somewhat horrified that I would take the bus. It was fine! Lots of nice people, everyone minded their own business, clean buses, helpful drivers.
Don't know if that helps, but I wouldn't hesitate to ride the bus daily if I could. (I can't)
I have only ridden it once, but thought it was very nice. Newer/clean buses, close to on time, and free. I would say that if you live along the route, it would be a great option to get to/from work.
It's a great service. When it's not 100 degrees out I take the Connector to and from work or campus (I work downtown, have meetings on Duke's campus, and fortunately live two blocks from a stop.) Only thing that would make it better is real-time bus tracking info but I am sure that's coming.
I rode it when I needed to get from South Square to Duke campus. I got on the #5 and then caught the Connector. No problems here!
