My mom and sister are coming to visit this weekend and I'm looking for a nice, fun place to take them for lunch on Saturday. But I've only been here a couple of months, so I don't know what's around... I'd like to take them to a unique place, not a chain restaurant. Any ideas?

Thanks!

There is a nice little restaurant in the "historic" part of downtown Cary that I've been to a few times. The food is good, if a little pricey, but the service can be spotty at times. I took my mother-in-law there when we came to visit and she seemed to like it. Can't remember the name though. Might be "Cindy's" or something like that. Perhaps someone can help me out. You basically have to park in this service station parking lot and walk a few yards up the street. They serve sandwiches, soups, salads, etc.

Your thinking of Cindy's House Cafe -- and kudos to you. That place is really good. I would definately recommended it.

CIndy's cafe is great, I recommend it as well. DO they prefer regular American food or some type of ethnic food? Mexican?

Try the Cary Cafe - it's family owned and good.

I agree. We've been to the Cary Cafe a few times too and it is good. Not quite the "ambiance" as Cindy's as it's in a strip mall, but the food is good. It is counter service instead of waitstaff. About the only thing that I dislike about the place is that the owner seems to be a bit of a penny pincher (seems to ration out napkins, drinks, etc.). Maybe I just caught them when their stockroom was low on supplies or something.
